in 1997, I participated in an offshore project to recover gold coins from a shipwreck that sank back in 1840. I’ll supply the link when I find one suitable instead of publishing a link from a treasure hunters website.

Anyway, during the salvage of this wreck, a number a artifacts was discovered. I managed to hold onto a few ships nails or spikes that were used to build the ship & hold it together. Back in those days, by the 1800’’s, they had already leaned that iron & seawater do not mix due to corrosion. So they started using bronze as the metal of choice for shipbuilding. There are numerous articles on this & I won’t publish them here.

The bronze snails or spikes clean up very nicely. I decided to mount one on a picee of wood I stained & then covered with resin. I’m still working on it.
